Morgan Mammila has made a U-turn on his move to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Lerumo Lions FC, where he was set to take over as the Chief Operating Officer [COO] ahead of the 2026/27 season, FARPost has established.

Mammila has been with Chippa United, where his contract expires at the end of June. During his tenure with the Chilli Boys, he served the club in various capacities, including as sporting director, head coach, and assistant coach.

The Gqeberha-based club had previously released a statement in October 2025 indicating that the administrator-turned-coach had parted ways with the side, alongside technical team members Luc Eymael and Sly Mosala.

However, in an interview with this publication in November 2025, Mammila clarified that he was still under contract with Chippa and had been asked to work from home. His last official role at the club was as sporting director.

“I was asked by the club if I can work from home until the contract ends on 30 June 2026. So I accepted that with both hands,” Mammila told FARPost at the time.

As first reported by this publication in May 2026, the former Baroka FC mentor was scheduled to return to football administration as the new COO for North West-based side – Lerumo Lions FC.

But in a sudden turn of events, Mammila has backed out of his agreement with the Sibongile Marokana-owned club before the start of the new campaign.

Lerumo Lions recently concluded their first-ever campaign in the South African professional ranks. The club secured PSL status in the second tier prior to the start of the 2025/26 term by purchasing the franchise of Pretoria Callies.

In their debut season, Lerumo finished in seventh position on the National First Division [NFD] log standings with 42 points from 30 matches.

MORGAN MAMMILA LINKED WITH MAGESI FC MOVE

According to a source close to this website, Mammila is now heavily linked with a move to Magesi FC, who were recently relegated from the Betway Premiership to the Motsepe Foundation Championship after failing to retain their top-flight status in the PSL Promotion/Relegation Playoffs.

Reports indicate that Mammila is set to take the reins from veteran tactician Allan Freese at Dikwena Tsa Meetse for the upcoming 2026/27 SA second-tier football season.

While Mammila has previously downplayed discussions regarding a move to the Limpopo side, his latest U-turn at Lerumo strongly signals that a new chapter awaits the outspoken football administrator.
