Experienced midfielder Tlakusani Mthethwa has confirmed that he has left Richards Bay FC, opening up about the decision behind his exit from the KZN side.

Mthethwa is leaving Richards Bay as his contract expires on the 30th of June 2026, after the club decided against offering him a new deal. The central midfielder spent the past two seasons with the Natal Rich Boys after having joined the team in July 2024.

Mthethwa signed with Richards Bay FC from the now-defunct Moroka Swallows, who had sold their top-flight status to Marumo Gallants. And during his stint at Richards Bay, Mthethwa established himself as a reliable figure with his defensive qualities, passing range, and leadership skills.

The 33-year-old anchorman made 50 appearances across all competitions during his two seasons at the KZN-based Betway Premiership side, scoring one goal and providing vital defensive stability.

Having left Richards Bay, Mthethwa will explore his options and hopes to secure a new club ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Before joining the Jomo Biyela-owned team, the midfielder played for Maccabi FC and Swallows FC. And speaking exclusively to FARPost on his exit from Richards Bay, Mthethwa revealed that the club decided against offering him a new deal, admitting that the separation was mutual and nothing was personal.

“My contract with Richards Bay came to an end, and we decided to go our separate ways. There is nothing negative about it,” Mthethwa told FARPost.

“It was just a mutual agreement between the team and me, and I was so happy to be part of the team for the two seasons I spent there. And now it’s about moving to the next team, I don’t know yet where I’m going, but we’ll see.”
