Newly appointed Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has touched down in South Africa, breaking his silence as he prepares to lead the Soweto giants into the 2026/27 campaign.

The 54-year-old French tactician, who holds an elite UEFA Pro Licence, joins Amakhosi on a two-year deal with an option to extend for another year.

Da Cruz is taking over the hotseat to succeed co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, who helped the club achieve a top-three finish on the league table to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup next season before being shown the exit door.

Arriving from Rabat after a successful stint as the technical director for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Da Cruz is eager to restore the club’s domestic dominance and bring silverware back to its demanding fanbase.

Speaking on his arrival at the club’s headquarters on Thursday, Da Cruz expressed his deep connection to the Soweto giants and outlined his immediate objectives for the squad.

“I’m very happy to be here. The club has always held a special place in my heart, and I’ve kept a close eye on its journey over the past two years,” said Da Cruz on the club’s official website.

“The journey ahead will demand hard work and unity, but I’m confident we will rise to the challenge.”

Welcoming the new mastermind, Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr expressed total confidence that the partnership will breathe new life into the squad as pre-season preparations kick into high gear.

“His arrival marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for the club, and we look forward to seeing his vision take shape with the team,” Motaung Jr stated.

“With the passion of our loyal supporters and the commitment of our players, we believe this partnership will bring renewed energy and success.”
