Orlando Pirates have dominated the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League [PSL] Awards nominations list released on Friday, following a highly successful domestic campaign. The Soweto giants secured nods across several major categories, confirming their status as the standout team of the season.
The Soweto giants secured major nods across nearly every category after a season that will go down in South African football history. The official nominees were unveiled by the PSL on Friday, July 3, 2026, with the final winners set to be crowned at a live-broadcast gala event on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The overwhelming number of nominations comes off the back of a relentless run of form under the stewardship of Moroccan head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.
Pirates completed a domestic treble, successfully securing the MTN8 title, the Carling Knockout Cup, and the Betway Premiership trophy.
By capturing the league title with 69 points, just one point ahead of arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, the Buccaneers dramatically dethroned Sundowns, effectively halting their record-shattering streak of eight consecutive league titles.
The triumph also marked the end of a painful 14-year league title drought for Orlando Pirates, whose last Premiership crown dated back to the 2011/12 season.
RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG AND OSWIN APPOLLIS NOMINATED FOR BIG AWARDS
In the awards nominations, Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis bagged recognition for the highly prized accolades as they are both nominated for the Betway Premiership Footballer of the Season and Player’s Player of the Season.
Mofokeng, who recently completed a move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, made 27 appearances in the league, scored 10 goals, and provided eight assists, while Appollis featured in 30 games with nine goals and six assists to his name.
