Betway Premiership side Marumo Gallants have placed midfielder Thapelo Dhludhlu on immediate suspension amid a ‘staged kidnapping’ probe by the South African Police Service [SAPS] in Mpumalanga.

The player was reportedly last seen on the weekend of 26-27 June 2026 during the off-season break. His family initially brought his disappearance to the attention of the police after he went missing for a couple of days.

Fortunately, Dhludhlu was reunited with his family on Tuesday, 7 July, with his safety confirmed by the South African Football Players Union [SAFPU].

Initial local reports suggested that the player’s kidnappers had demanded a ransom of R50,000 for his release. However, SAPS in Mpumalanga has since launched an investigation into a possible staged kidnapping involving the Premier Soccer League [PSL] player.

In light of the ongoing police probe, Bahlabane Ba Ntwa have opted to sideline the midfielder to let the law take its course.
