Chiefs leave Glody Lilepo behind as North African interest grows

Glody Makabi Lilepo has been omitted from Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season training camp in Spain after only recently rejoining the squad following his off-season break. FARPost understands the decision is also linked to growing uncertainty over the 28-year-old winger’s future at Naturena.

Sources close to the situation have indicated that Chiefs are prepared to listen to offers for the Congolese attacker before the transfer window closes. The club is not actively looking to offload him, but they are open to doing business should a suitable offer arrive.

Lilepo has attracted interest from North Africa, with Moroccan giants AS FAR Rabat and Libya’s Al Ahly Benghazi both understood to be eager to snap him up.

In fact, Benghazi and another North African club are said to have submitted offers for the winger. FARPost understands the bids are generally higher than the fee Chiefs paid to bring the Congolese international to Naturena, while another club from the region has also made enquiries as competition for his signature gathers momentum.

IS GLODY LILEPO LEAVING KAIZER CHIEFS?

The latest development comes weeks after Lilepo sparked speculation with cryptic Instagram stories, including posts reading “leaving bye” and “bye bye”, prompting many to wonder whether an exit was imminent.

FARPost previously reported that the DR Congo international has grown increasingly frustrated behind the scenes.
However, Chiefs remain in a strong contractual position. Lilepo is tied to the club until June 2027, with an option to extend for a further year, meaning any interested club will have to table a convincing offer to secure his services.

Since arriving at Naturena in January 2025, Lilepo has established himself as one of Chiefs’ key attacking players, registering 15 goals and five assists in 56 appearances. He played a leading role in ending the club’s 10-year wait for silverware with the Nedbank Cup triumph before helping Amakhosi secure a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership last season.

It is increasingly looking likely that he could leave before the start of the season.

Chiefs are spending nine days in Spain as part of their preparations for the 2026/27 season. During the camp, Fernando Da Cruz’s side is scheduled to face a number of European and Saudi Arabian clubs in friendly matches before returning to South Africa.

Thereafter, the Soweto giants face Zimbabwe’s Scottland FC in the Toyota Cup at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on July 26.
Meanwhile, Amakhosi have also left behind Thabo Cele, Ashley Du Preez, who could also be on their way out of the club.
