‘I will never coach again’ – Magesi FC director Morgan Mammila

Despite recently upgrading his CAF coaching credentials, newly appointed Magesi FC Director of Football Morgan Mammila insists his days of sitting on the bench are officially over.

Mammilla recently took over at the relegated club ahead of the 2026/27 Motsepe Foundation Championship season. He has previously served as a coach at clubs such as Chippa United, Baroka FC and the now-defunct Moroka Swallows.

Ahead of the upcoming season, Mammila was heavily linked with a move to Lerumo Lions. However, the well-travelled administrator has instead opted for a return to Limpopo, joining Magesi FC during the current pre-season window.

MORGAN MAMMILA SAYS HE IS RETIRING FROM COACHING

Speaking to the media at the official unveiling of new Magesi FC head coach Kabelo Sibiya in Polokwane on Friday, Mammila revealed that he has officially retired from coaching. The vocal administrator went on to make a bold declaration, stating that the Limpopo-based outfit will be his final professional club in South African football.

“It’s a closed chapter. I think I have done my part in coaching, and I will never coach again,” Mammilla told journalists. “I am happy because I left a record at a club I was coaching,” Mammila stated. “People are still struggling after I left. So, I am not going to coach anymore.”

Mammila appeared to be referencing his historic stint with Chippa United, where he set a club record by becoming the first head coach in the Chilli Boys’ Premiership history to secure four consecutive league victories during the 2022/23 campaign—a record that still stands to this day.

“Also, I just hope and pray that Magesi will be my last team. After Magesi, I think I will be done with football. It will be time for me and for my family,” he added.

HOW MAGESI FC HEAD OF FOOTBALL PLANS TO UTILISE HIS COACHING BADGES

Holding a CAF B Diploma, Mammila noted that his coaching qualifications will help him better interpret and support the technical plans of newly appointed head coach Kabelo Sibiya.

“The coaching badges also help me so that I understand the coaches’ plans. As a director of football, I need to understand football. So I still need to go and do other badges. Not for coaching but just to understand football because we must take Magesi to another level.”
