With a move to Durban City FC looming, Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed they have parted ways with attacker Gaston Sirino after the 35-year-old spent the past two seasons at Naturena.
The Soweto giants have opted not to renew Sirino’s contract, which expired at the end of June. With his future at Chiefs a subject of speculation in the last few months, it became clear that he was not part of new coach Fernando da Cruz’s plans after he was excluded from the squad that travelled to the pre-season camp in Spain.
He is now a free agent and can join a club of his choice. FARPost understands the Uruguayan-South African is headed to Durban City FC, where he is expected to be reunited with Khalil Ben Youssef, with the two having worked together at Chiefs.
Having arrived at Chiefs from Mamelodi Sundowns, the left winger went on to play at least 50 games across all competitions for Amakhosi. But his impact at Amakhosi was limited, as he managed just five goals and eight assists.
That might not have impressed Da Cruz, who is looking to build on what his predecessors Cedric Kaze and Ben Youssef set when they guided Chiefs to a third-place finish in last season’s Betway Premiership campaign.
But should Durban City complete the signing of Sirino, they would bank on his experience playing PSL football since January 2018, when he joined Sundowns from Bolivian side Club Bolivar.

Chiefs have saluted Sirino, who bows out after helping them clinch the 2025 Nedbank Cup, ending their 10-year trophy drought.

“The experienced Uruguayan midfielder played a key role in helping Amakhosi achieve success since he arrived at the Club.
“His leadership and experience were instrumental in guiding the team to the prestigious Nedbank Cup title last year. We thank Gaston for his commitment and passion, as well as all the memories he leaves behind at Naturena.”
