Highly sought-after Bafana Bafana defender Thabang Matuludi has returned to Polokwane City FC for pre-season training, even as teammate Simon Ramabu’s future at the club hangs in the balance, FARPost can reveal.

Matuludi was part of the history-making Bafana Bafana squad that reached the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time, before bowing out in the Round of 32 in North America, though he did not make an appearance during the tournament.

The 27-year-old earned his place in the global showpiece following a string of stellar performances for Rise and Shine in recent seasonsโ€”displays that have made him a primary target for several powerhouse clubs in the league.

INTEREST IN BAFANA BAFANA DEFENDER THABANG MATULUDI

Current Betway Premiership champions Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are said to have shown keen interest in luring the talented right-back before the start of the new 2026/27 season.

This publicationย has established that Matuludi returned to training with the Limpopo side last week, having been given an extended break to rest following his international duties with Bafana Bafana.

With just under 20 days to go before the new campaign kicks off, it remains to be seen whether the player will be granted his desired move to Gauteng.

POLOKWANE CITY FORWARD REFUSES TO TRAIN AMID INTEREST FROM ABROAD

Meanwhile, FARPost has also gathered that winger Simon Ramabu has not returned for pre-season training with the rest of his teammates at Polokwane City. It is said that the player is forcing a move away from PLK City after attracting interest from both local and overseas clubs.

This has resulted in the player refusing to train and staying at home while the rest of the squad prepares for the new campaign. Golden Arrows and Marumo Gallants are reportedly among the clubs monitoring the situation with the hope of securing his signature ahead of the season.

Marumo Gallants’ interest comes as no surprise given their recent appointment of Phuti Mohafe as head coach, who previously worked closely with Ramabu at Polokwane City.
