Sekhukhune United star Vusimuzi Mncube has lifted the lid on the squad’s progress under new head coach Cedric Kaze, sharing crucial insight into how the players are responding to the Burundian’s leadership in these early days.
Kaze was recently appointed to take over at the Betway Premiership club following his departure from Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs last season.
During his time at Amakhosi as co-coach alongside Khalil Ben Youssef, Kaze helped the club finish in third place—marking the first time in two seasons that the club had finished inside the top eight. By securing that top-three finish, they also clinched a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The 45-year-old coach takes over a Sekhukhune side that finished fifth last season.
Speaking at the launch of the Mafori Cup at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane on Tuesday, Mncube revealed that the squad has quickly warmed to the Burundian tactician, expressing optimism about what the future holds under his guidance.

“He’s [Kaze] a good guy, he’s a good coach. I think we can look forward to good things with him,” Mncube told FARPost. “The guys are responding well, and they like him. So it’s going to be a good working relationship.”
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old, who has been part of Sekhukhune for the past five seasons, has also spoken about the club’s ambitions for the new campaign. Mncube says they are aiming to better their top-five finish and earn a place in the top three, which would see them return to CAF inter-club football.
“That’s always our goal. Every season we want to be better than the previous season. It’s looking good,” added Mncube.
