Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa’s stay at the club for another season has been confirmed. Mthethwa joined Amakhosi from Stellenbosch FC in September 2023 on a three-year deal.
That contract expired in June 2026, but FARPost has established that the former Black Leopards midfielder will remain at Naturena for the upcoming campaign.
The KwaZulu-Natal-born linkman is currently with the Chiefs squad on their pre-season tour of Spain and has featured in both of the club’s friendly matches, making a strong early impression as coach Fernando Da Cruz fine-tunes his squad ahead of the new season.
Mthethwa was particularly influential in Chiefs’ 1-1 draw against Scottish giants Rangers, playing a key role in the build-up to the club’s goal. He also featured in the Soweto giants’ 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Kholood.
SIBONGISENI MTHETHWA EAGER TO IMPRESS DA CRUZ
At one stage, Mthethwa found himself on the fringes of the Bafana Bafana setup, while reports later linked him with a possible exit during former coach Nasreddine Nabi’s time at the club.
However, he fought his way back into contention and has since turned his fortunes around. The 32-year-old has made 61 appearances since moving to Naturena three years ago.
Chiefs’ tour of Spain presents him with another opportunity to impress Da Cruz, who is preparing his squad for a demanding 2026/27 campaign. Chiefs will represent South Africa in the CAF Confederation Cup. They will also play in the MTN8 after finishing third in the Betway Premiership last season and will compete in the Carling Knockout Cup and the Nedbank Cup.
The Glamour Boys take on Spanish La Liga side Elche CF on Saturday, 18 July 2026, in their final match of the pre-season tour. The fixture will be open to supporters.
Thereafter, Chiefs will return home to continue their preparations before facing Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC in the annual Toyota Cup in Rustenburg on Sunday, 26 July.
