New Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has opened up on the club’s transfer market strategy, revealing that he has asked management to reinforce four specific attacking positions ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The Glamour Boys have taken a cautious approach to the current transfer window, showing measured activity as they build toward the new Betway Premiership season.
To date, Chiefs have secured just three recruits: goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner and defender Thabo Moloisane—who both arrived as free agents following their departures from Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch FC, respectively—along with Tanzanian midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko from Azam FC.
The limited transfer activity has fuelled growing frustration among the club’s demanding fanbase, who continue to clamour for major reinforcements.
WHICH POSITIONS DOES DA CRUZ WANT TO REINFORCE?
Addressing the media in his first official press conference at the Naturena Village on Friday, the French tactician outlined the need for fresh tactical profiles upfront—specifically targeting a new striker, two wingers, and an offensive midfielder—to complement a defensive unit he already considers well-structured.
“We are working with management to get players in the offensive part of the squad and have complementary profiles for the positions, but for the moment we have that,” Da Cruz said.
After being pressed to give more details on the areas that need new players, the French mentor said, “There are four positions in the offensive part: striker, two wingers and an offensive midfielder. So we have good profiles at the moment, but we asked the management to have different profiles to play different football and also adapt to different game plans of the opposition throughout the season.
He added: “The defensive part is better. We have a good defensive structure, but now the next step is to work on the offensive part.”
