FARPost has established why Kaizer Chiefs forward Glody Makabi Lilepo is currently in Tunisia as he edges closer to completing his move to Libyan giants Al Ahly Benghazi.
The DR Congo international flew out earlier this week after Chiefs granted him permission to travel to finalise his move to North Africa.
The 29-year-old has been pushing for an exit and has not been part of Amakhosi’s pre-season. Chiefs and Al Ahly Benghazi agreed terms over the transfer, allowing the talented attacker to proceed with the final stages of the deal.
WHAT IS LILEPO DOING IN TUNISIA?
Information gathered by this publication is that the former AS Vita winger is undergoing his medical examinations ahead of the proposed transfer. Once he successfully completes his medical, Lilepo is expected to put pen to paper, with personal terms having already been agreed in principle.
However, while the transfer is at an advanced stage, FARPost has been informed that there are still a few details that the player is not entirely happy with. Those concerns could yet result in a late twist if they are not resolved to his satisfaction.
Lilepo’s trip to Tunisia also explains his absence from Chiefs’ Toyota Cup triumph over Scottland FC on Sunday. He also missed the pre-season training camp in Spain, where he was omitted from the travelling squad amid negotiations over his future.
Meanwhile, Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz on Friday acknowledged that the club were willing to listen to offers for Lilepo.
“First of all, Lilepo has other opportunities elsewhere, and the management is open to listening [to offers],” Da Cruz responded to FARPost.
Chiefs are pushing aggressively to get the Langelihle Phili deal over the line. They have offered Ashley Du Preez and Given Msimango as part of the package to convince Stellenbosch FC to let go of their most prized attacker. The Winelands club values the 21-year-old at R16 million and has agreed in principle to sell him to the Soweto giants.
