FARPost has established that Betway Premiership side Marumo Gallants intend to rope in former Kaizer Chiefs striker Collins Mbesuma as part of their technical team.
Mbesuma, who officially retired from playing in 2022, has had several stints as a striker coach at various clubs in South African football.
These include the now-defunct Pretoria Callies, Venda FC, the Zambia Under-17 Men’s National Team, and more recently, Randburg AFC, who play in the Gauteng Development League [GDL].
During his career that spanned over two decades, Mbesuma played for the three biggest clubs in South Africa, Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
He made a name for himself at Amakhosi during the 2004/05 season when he scored 25 league goals and 35 across all competitions in a single season. He secured a move to English side Portsmouth the following season but struggled to make an impact abroad.
Two decades later, he still holds the record for the most goals scored in a single PSL season.

This publication has it on good authority that the 42-year-old has been at Marumo Gallants for over a week now.
However, it appears the former Zambian striker is yet to sign on the dotted line, despite being spotted assisting the striking department ahead of Gallants’ opening game of the 2026/27 season. The club is reportedly looking to bring in Mbesuma as a strikers’ coach to work alongside head coach Phuti Mohafe.
Meanwhile, the club will play their first match at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng on Tuesday evening against Premiership newcomers Kruger United. The club relocated to the North West after spending two seasons in Mangaung, Free State.
It is not the first time that Gallants have used the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, having hosted some of their matches during the 2022/23 season.
