Polokwane City FC long-serving forward Puleng Marema has reflected on the departure of star winger Simon Ramabu following his recent switch to Sekhukhune United.
The 28-year-old wide attacker officially joined Sekhukhune United FC on August 3, 2026, for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.
Ramabu served as a key figure for the Limpopo-based outfit over recent seasons, playing a vital role in the squad that secured promotion to South Africa’s top flight on May 14, 2023, by clinching the Motsepe Foundation Championship title. Furthermore, he was instrumental in helping Rise and Shine maintain top-eight finishes in subsequent campaigns, including the 2025/26 season under former coach Phuti Mohafe.
However, the winger did not return for pre-season training with his teammates as the team prepared for the current season under the tutelage of head coach Bayano Moloto [ also known as Willy ‘Machete’ Moloto].
Instead, Ramabu sought a fresh transition away from the club to pursue new opportunities.
In his final campaign with Polokwane City, Ramabu was a consistent figure on the pitch, featuring in 29 matches across all competitions. He contributed four goals.

Speaking to FARPost, veteran frontman, Marema, admitted that losing a player of Ramabu’s quality leaves a noticeable void, but he remains supportive of his former teammate’s career progression.
“Well, I think he has been a good player for Polokwane City in terms of scoring goals and assisting,” Marema told FARPost.
“I have been with him for five years, so it’s a big loss for us. But at the same time, players need to grow, you know. I believe he needed a new challenge to grow as a footballer.
“I’m very happy for him. I think the new players that we have will fill up the space.”
In addition, Ramabu made his Babina Noko debut on Sunday, 9 August, when the team secured a dramatic 4-3 extra-time victory over AmaZulu FC in the MTN8 quarter-final tie at Chatsworth Stadium.
