Mamelodi Sundowns have agreed to send goalkeeper Jody February out on loan to Siwelele FC ahead of the 2026/27 season. FARPost understands February has already started training with the Bloemfontein outfit this week and is expected to spend the campaign at the club, barring any late changes to the agreement.
The move comes after Sundowns assessed their goalkeeping options following the return of Ricardo Goss from his loan spell at Siwelele. With Ronwen Williams still firmly established as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, competition for places has intensified ahead of the new season.
February had also attracted interest from Sekhukhune United, who explored the possibility of bringing him in before eventually signing Melusi Buthelezi. However, Sundowns were reluctant to let February leave at the time, with the goalkeeper travelling with the squad to Austria for their pre-season training camp.
His situation has since changed following Goss’ return to Chloorkop, making a loan move the preferred option for the 30-year-old to secure regular playing time.
Veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango and Reyaad Pieterse are also available to head coach Miguel Cardoso, further limiting February’s prospects of breaking into the matchday squad.
JODY FEBRUARY HEADS TO SIWELELE FC IN SEARCH OF GAME TIME
The former Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper extended his contract earlier this year after his previous agreement was due to expire at the end of June. His new deal keeps him at the club for another year, with Sundowns holding an option to extend it by a further season.
At Siwelele, he becomes the club’s third goalkeeper signing this season. The club also signed Botswana international Goitseone Phoko from Jwaneng Galaxy and Wandile Mthombeni from Casric Stars.
February joined Sundowns from Ajax Cape Town in September 2019 but has found regular opportunities difficult to come by. He has made just eight appearances across all competitions for the Brazilians and has also spent time on loan at Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu FC in search of regular football.
His loan spells at Swallows and Usuthu afforded him game time, particularly at The Birds, where he appeared 22 times. A move to Siwelele now presents February with an opportunity to play consistently and rebuild his momentum, while Sundowns retain control of his future.
His agent Mike Makaab of Prosport International recently confirmed they were exploring a loan move for the goalie. “Look, for Jody February, we are looking at loan opportunities for him to get game time and get back to the best form that we all know,” Makaab told FARPost recently.
