Kaizer Chiefs defender Xolani Cossa is now free to make his loan debut for Gomora United after the contractual issues that delayed the announcement of his move were resolved.
Amakhosi had already confirmed the loan departures of senior players Samkelo Zwane and Bontle Molefe, who joined Cape Town-based Hope FC, while academy prospects Ofentse Kgosana and Vicky Mkhawana moved to Real Natives.
Sfiso Timba was also confirmed as joining Gomora, but Cossa’s name was notably absent from the announcement because of the outstanding contractual matters.
FARPost understands that Cossa’s loan move was not included in Chiefs’ announcement last week because there were outstanding matters that needed to be finalised. Those issues have since been sorted, paving the way for the 22-year-old to feature for Gomora this weekend.
Cossa signed a new professional contract with Chiefs ahead of the loan move and will now spend the season gaining regular first-team experience away from Naturena.
The defender is expected to be available when Gomora open their Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign against Hungry Lions away from home on Sunday.
The decision to loan out Cossa comes after a breakthrough campaign in Botswana, where he captained Black Lions and established himself as one of the league’s standout defenders.
His performances also attracted interest from several clubs, including Botswana champions Gaborone United, while Jwaneng Galaxy, Kruger United and Milford FC had previously shown an interest in securing his services.
CHIEFS BACKED COSSA WITH NEW CONTRACT
Despite interest from elsewhere, Amakhosi opted to secure Cossa’s future by handing him a new deal that could keep him at the club until June 2028. The club then decided another loan spell would be best for his development, with Rushwin Dortley’s return from injury anticipated.
Cossa had returned to Chiefs for pre-season after signing his new deal but was left out of the squad that travelled to Spain. The club’s thinking is that regular first-team football will be more beneficial to the former Chiefs DDC captain at this stage of his career.
His move to Gomora gives Cossa another opportunity to build on his impressive spell in Botswana and return to Naturena with more senior experience under his belt.
With the contractual issues now behind him, the defender can turn his attention to the new season and make an impact in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
