Kaizer Chiefs defender Xolani Cossa has been left out of the club’s pre-season tour to Spain, with FARPost understanding that the newly contracted centre-back is set for another loan spell.
The decision comes just weeks after FARPost revealed that Chiefs had rewarded the 22-year-old with a new two-year contract following an impressive season with Botswana Premier League outfit Black Lions FC.
While Cossa reported for pre-season training at Naturena after signing his new deal, he was not part of the travelling squad that departed for Spain on Thursday night. FARPost has established that the club’s plan is for him to gain another season of regular first-team football, this time at a Betway Premiership club.
Chiefs believe the defender’s development will be better served by consistent game time rather than by limited opportunities in a squad with several experienced central defenders competing for places.
Cossa’s stock rose during his time at Black Lions, where he captained the side and established himself as one of the standout defenders in the Botswana top flight.
The former Chiefs DDC captain also attracted the interest of reigning Botswana champions Gaborone United [GU]. GU are coached by former Cape Town Spurs technical director Sean Connor, who is a big admirer of the defender.
WHICH TEAMS SHOWED INTEREST IN XOLANI COSSA?

Before committing to a new deal at Naturena, Cossa had attracted interest from several clubs, including TS Galaxy, Kruger United and Milford FC. Chiefs, however, opted to extend his stay until June 2028 before deciding that another loan would best aid his progression.
The move also comes as Amakhosi continue to reshape their squad under Fernando da Cruz ahead of the 2026/27 campaign that includes domestic competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup.
