Kaizer Chiefs winger Asanele Velebayi has sent a firm warning and word of advice to new Amakhosi signing Faiz Abrahams, cautioning the attacker about the intense pressure that comes with wearing the gold and black jersey.
Abrahams sealed a season-long loan move to Naturena—complete with an option to make the deal permanent—as Fernando Da Cruz builds his squad for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The versatile forward arrives in Naturena amidst a massive squad overhaul as Amakhosi set their sights on domestic silverware and a competitive CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Abrahams is the latest addition in Chiefs’ Western Cape raid, becoming the club’s third window arrival alongside high-profile recruits Thabo Moloisane and Langelihle Phili. The club’s recent recruitment drive also includes former Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner and central midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko, who joined from Tanzanian outfit Azam FC.
Having cut his teeth in Cape Town Spurs’ youth development ranks, Abrahams made a name for himself in Stellenbosch FC’s DStv Diski Challenge side before making his senior first-team breakthrough against Chiefs late in the 2024/25 campaign.

The 21-year-old also made a strong impression on the international stage, featuring in the South Africa U-20 squad that won the AFCON title in 2025 in Egypt.
Following his impressive trajectory and subsequent move to Chiefs, his former CT Spurs teammate Velebayi encouraged the highly-rated attacker to stay composed and focus on his craft.
“With Faiz, I’ve known him [for a long time], so having him here [at Chiefs] is good because it helps you give your best because you know there is competition; you can’t be comfortable any day,” Velebayi said.
“So having Faiz here is a positive because I know the magic that he has, and I know that he’s going to help us a lot. I spoke to him and told him that the pressure is going to be high, but try to control what you can, which is staying calm and giving the best to the team.”
