Former Kaizer Chiefs development coach Sundra Govinder is set to return to Betway Premiership outfit Marumo Gallants for a second spell, FARPost has learnt.
Govinder left Bahlabane Ba Ntwa in July last year, having initially joined the club in December 2024 following his departure from Casric Stars [now known as Real Native FC].
During his first stint with Gallants, Govinder served as an assistant to Dan Malesela, who eventually cut ties with the club a few months later.
Following Malesela’s exit, he worked alongside Moroccan mentor Abdeslam Ouaddou—who has since taken over the coaching reins at Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.
Most recently, Govender served as an assistant coach to Duncan Lechesa at Motsepe Foundation Championship side The Bees FC.
It was not the first time the duo worked together, having previously served as co-coaches at Black Leopards last season. However, they endured a difficult spell with Lidoda Duvha, as the former PSL side suffered relegation to the SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League after finishing 15th on the National First Division [NFD] table with just 28 points from 30 matches.
Meanwhile, in their first game in charge of The Bees last weekend, the Mpumalanga-based outfit succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Highbury FC at Kanyamazane Stadium.
WHAT WILL BE SUNDRA GOVINDER’S ROLE AT MARUMO GALLANTS?
A reliable source close to the developments has confirmed to this publication that Govinder is set to rejoin Gallants as an assistant coach to head coach Phuti Mohafe.
The technical team reinforcement comes at a critical time for Mohafe, who is struggling after the club’s poor start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.
Gallants currently sit 15th in the league standings, having collected just a single point from their opening four fixtures. After securing a goalless draw against Kruger United in their season opener, the North West-based side suffered three consecutive defeats against Stellenbosch FC [3-1], Mamelodi Sundowns [2-0], and TS Galaxy [3-2].
Coach Govinder will be expected to help turn Gallants’ fortunes around using the experience he gained at teams such as Chiefs, Real Native, Leopards, and The Bees.
