Former Bafana Bafana star Bongani Zungu has completed a shock move to Indian outfit Malappuram FC as a free agent following his departure from AmaZulu FC at the end of last season.
The 33-year-old midfielder was available on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Betway Premiership side AmaZulu FC at the end of June this year.
Malappuram FC, a professional football club based in Malappuram, Kerala, competes in the Super League Kerala.
The Indian club announced the signing of the midfielder on Sunday morning via their social media platforms.
“It’s Ben 10 time. The wait is finally over! Midfield general Bongani ‘Ben 10’ Zungu is officially an MFC player! A new star joins the MFC family! Welcome, Bongani Zungu!,” the club confirmed in a statement on Facebook and Instagram.

Zungu arrived at Usuthu in December 2024 with high expectations. He was brought in as a marquee signing tasked with adding leadership and technical quality to the KwaZulu-Natal side’s midfield.
However, his spell with AmaZulu was affected by limited game time and overall inconsistency. Under the guidance of head coach Arthur Zwane last season, the midfielder managed just five starts across all competitions, along with six appearances off the bench.
Given his lack of regular starting minutes and overall impact, Usuthu ultimately opted not to offer the former Mamelodi Sundowns star an extension when his contract ran out.
Malappuram FC will now be counting on Zungu to revive his form and anchor their midfield for the campaign ahead.
The Indian side will draw heavily on his vast international experience, including top-flight spells with Sundowns in South Africa, Vitória Guimarães SC in Portugal, Amiens SC in France, and Scottish powerhouse Rangers FC, to name a few.
