Kaizer Chiefs striker Etiosa Ighodaro has opened up on his “frustrating” debut campaign at Naturena, while declaring himself ready to deliver a standout 2026/27 season.
The Nigerian frontman signed for Amakhosi in August last year following his departure from the African reining champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, his maiden season at Chiefs proved challenging, as he only managed to make six appearances across all competitions.
Speaking to the club’s media, the forward admitted that while his first year did not go according to plan due to persistent fitness issues, he has put those struggles behind him.

“Last season was quite frustrating for me because of injuries, but that is behind me now,” said Ighodaro. “I am looking forward to a great season. Hopefully, you’ll see the best of me. I am pushing myself hard to make the club and the supporters proud.”
Ighodaro went on to express his optimism about the new campaign, highlighting the value of Amakhosi’s pre-season camp in Spain. And after spending much of last season on the sidelines, the Nigerian forward feels the pre-season matches were vital for regaining his sharpness.
“I really benefited from pre-season because I didn’t play a lot last season, so I needed the minutes in the practice games to build my confidence,” he explained.
ETIOSA IGHODARO ON FACING SIWELELE FC THIS WEEKEND
Turning his attention to domestic duties, Ighodaro weighed in on Chiefs’ upcoming Betway Premiership fixture against Siwelele FC on Sunday. Amakhosi currently sit third on the league standings with eight points from four matches, trailing leaders Orlando Pirates by five points.
Reflecting on their recent 2-2 draw against Richards Bay FC and the task ahead, the striker emphasised the team’s determination to bounce back.
“Preparations are going well. We weren’t satisfied with getting only one point in our last game, and we are working hard to make sure we don’t slip up on Sunday,” Ighodaro noted. “Siwelele play aggressively with a lot of commitment, so we are ready for their physicality. But we believe in ourselves and our own ability to come out on top.”
