Bafana Bafana star Thapelo Maseko has reacted to his unforgettable FC Copenhagen brace on his first start since joining the club from Mamelodi Sundowns last month.
Maseko proved his worth immediately for FC Copenhagen with a brilliant brace in a 5-0 victory over Odense Boldklub. The win sent his side to the top of the Danish Superliga table with 18 points from seven matches.
The impressive winger put in a standout performance on his full debut for the Danish club, finding the back of the net twice in the fifth and 76th minutes to help secure the dominant win.
Currently enjoying fine form in Denmark, Thapelo Maseko has earned a spot in Pitso Mosimane’s provisional Bafana Bafana squad. Should he make the final cut, he will look to replicate that impact in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Guinea [26 September] and Eritrea [30 September], followed by an October friendly against Egypt.

After Sunday’s match, Maseko spoke with clear satisfaction, not only for his personal success but for the team’s ability to elevate new players.
“Unbelievable. I will revisit the goals obviously, but I think the gents were just amazing, you know. Amazing group of people. Amazing group of players and the staff, the technical team, you know,” Maseko said.
“They’ve been there for me. Made it very easy for me to adjust and adapt, you know. First games can be tough sometimes, and I’m just grateful to them. An amazing day.
“It was a very special day for me, you know. My first game and I scored two goals. I’m yet to look at the goals, but just credit to the pass that came, the cross, you know. It’s those things that make a team, but I’m very grateful to the gents.”
Maseko also gave a candid and light-hearted account of how his FC Copenhagen teammates have made life easy for him.
“I just want to give credit to the gents because they’ve been unbelievable to me, and yeah. What a way to start,” he added. “I’m yet to look at the goal, but as I said, it was a nice pass from my teammate. I had someone behind me telling me to go, and I just kept going, took a shot, and yeah, it was a goal.
“It’s unbelievable. It’s an unbelievable experience. But the fans keep us going. Every game they are there singing. They are there for us, and we are just very thankful to them.”
