Marumo Gallants have surprisingly cut ties with their head coach, Phuti Mohafe, who took over the job ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa announced the departure of Mohafe on Wednesday, with the Limpopo-born coach leaving the club alongside his assistant coach Musa Bilankulu.
Mohafe had a challenging start to life at Gallants, having joined the club in the off-season to replace Trevor Mathiane, who served as the interim coach toward the end of last season.
After five games into the new season, Mohafe remained without a win at Gallants after playing two draws and suffering three defeats in the league.
Mohafe took over the coaching job at Gallants from Polokwane City FC, where he built a name for himself, helping the team finish in the top eight over the past few seasons.
After struggling to replicate the results he produced at Polokwane City, the Bloemfontein-based side pulled the trigger to fire Mohafe with only three months in the hot seat.
MARUMO GALLANTS PART WAYS WITH PHUTI MOHAFE
Gallants confirmed the exit of the 52-year-old while also announcing the arrival of Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko on loan from Orlando Pirates.
“Marumo Gallants FC confirms that the club has parted ways with Head Coach Phuti Mohafe and Assistant Coach Musa Bilankulu, with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.
“The club will not be commenting further on the circumstances surrounding the decision or engaging on the merits of the matter.
“In the interim, second assistant coach Trevor Mathiane will assume responsibility as interim head coach, while the club continues its search for a new Head Coach.
“Marumo Gallants FC remains focused on ensuring continuity within the team and maintaining its preparations and commitments for the remainder of the season.
“Meanwhile, the club confirms that it has secured the services of Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko on loan from Orlando Pirates, following the departure of Bheki Mabuza, who has joined Orlando Pirates.
“The club thanks its supporters, partners and stakeholders for their continued support and will provide further updates when appropriate.”
