Emmanuel Jalai’s return to Zimbabwean football is backed by a massive financial push after details emerged on how Scottland FC secured the Durban City FC defender on loan, offering full wage coverage and significant off-pitch benefits.
Jalai arrived at Durban City FC in January 2025 after ending a six-year spell with Dynamos FC, having snubbed Scottland at the time despite their hot pursuit of his signature. Six months later, they got their man.
The deal was the first player movement to come from the partnership Durban City and Scottland sealed in February 2026, a pact Scottland director Tonderai Sakupwanya described as a “landmark moment for Southern African football.”

The Zimbabwe international was handed a brand-new top-of-the-range Ford Platinum SUV valued between R1 million and R1.3 million [USD 60 000- USD 74 000].
He was also given a residential stand in one of Harare’s leafy suburbs, while his monthly salary has been set at around R160,000, a figure that places him among Scottland FC’s top three earners.
With that kind of package, it would not be a surprise if the 27-year-old opts to remain in Zimbabwe beyond his loan spell instead of returning to Durban City, where his contract still runs until December 2028 with an option to extend.
Jalai made 19 appearances for Durban City last season, featuring 15 times in the Betway Premiership and four times in their Nedbank Cup-winning run.
The Harare-based side currently leads the PSL and views the former Dynamos defender as key to their CAF Champions League ambitions.
Domestically, Scottland FC are chasing a treble, competing for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title, the Chibuku Super Cup and the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup.
