Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has joined calls for the Video Assistant Referee [VAR] to be implemented in the Betway Premiership.
There has been pressure from fans in recent years for football authorities to introduce VAR in the local league.
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has also paid R20 million to SAFA to support the implementation of the technology. However, there is no progress so far, and the technology is unlikely to be implemented anytime soon.

Speaking after his side drew 1-1 with Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, Da Cruz referred to a few incidents that went against them and others that went in their favour due to errors by match officials.
He says to develop South African football, authorities need to implement VAR.
“He says that to develop the PSL and help our referees, we need to set up the VAR,” said Da Cruz, as translated by Chiefs conditioning coach Julien Le Heran.

He says he doesn’t intend to offend match officials, but believes VAR will help.
“Against Richards Bay, there was one offside incident where we could have scored a goal, and against Siwelele FC, [Wandile] Duba scored a goal, and it was disallowed.
“Today there was a penalty, so he said if we want to continue to develop the championship, we need to set up the VAR to help our referees. Sometimes it can be against us, or it can be with us. He doesn’t want to offend or attack the referees. But he says that it’s important to set up the VAR to support the referees,” he added.
