Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has made his feelings clear about Brandon Petersen’s latest costly blunder after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Polokwane City. The Betway Premiership encounter at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane saw Amakhosi drop crucial points, leaving them fourth on the log standings with 12 points from six outings.
Petersen, who was handed the captain’s armband last season, has endured a challenging start to the 2026/27 campaign. The 31-year-old shot-stopper’s mistake against Rise and Shine allowed the hosts back into the game, adding to his growing list of high-profile blunders in the current season.
So far this term, the former Bidvest Wits goalie has conceded seven goals in seven appearances across all competitions, only managing to keep a single clean sheet.
This rough patch stands in sharp contrast to his stellar form last season, where his impressive tally of 18 clean sheets helped Chiefs secure a third-place finish.
His performances had previously earned him high praise and a spot in the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad under former national team coach Hugo Broos ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to the media after the match in Polokwane, Da Cruz reflected on his captain’s mixed performance during the 90 minutes.
“Yes, for sure, it’s disappointing [to concede like that] because, in the first half, Brandon Petersen made two great saves, but after that, I didn’t see anything,” said Da Cruz.
“We knew that they [Polokwane City] are very good at set pieces and crosses. But when we concede this type of goal, it can be disappointing.”
The Glamour Boys will now shift the focus to their next league assignment against Golden Arrows on Sunday, 20 September. This encounter will take place at Mbombela Stadium, with the kick off set for 15:00.
