Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has provided an update on the appointment of a goalkeeper coach as he continues to assemble his technical team.
Mosimane has moved swiftly to put together his backroom staff following his recent appointment for a second stint as South Africaโs senior menโs national team coach.
Musi Matlaba and Kabelo Rangoaga were the first to join the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentorโs technical team. Morena Ramoreboli subsequently resigned from his position as Botswana national team coach to become one of Mosimaneโs assistants.
However, the goalkeeper coach position previously occupied by Grant Johnson remains vacant. Mosimane has confirmed that an appointment will be made, although the person will serve on a part-time arrangement.
WHAT PITSO MOSIMANE SAID ABOUT THE GOALKEEPER COACH POSITION

โYou must also understand that some of these people are not full-time,” said Mosimane at the SAFA House in Nasrec on Thursday after announcing his final squad for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea.
“You need to negotiate with the teams. We’re going to make sure that they’re available. We have sent out a few call-up letters. When the time is right, we will tell you, same as with coach Morena [Ramoreboli]. When the time is right, we will tell you, because weโll jump the gun early and then, yeahโฆ
“So we will have a goalkeeper coach, 100%, because you can’t have goalkeepers without a coach, right? But as you know, all those guys are part-time, right? These ones [pointing at Ramoreboli, Matlaba and Rangoaga] are there with me [full-time].โ
Mosimaneโs first assignment since returning to the Bafana hot seat will be a home encounter against Guinea on September 26 at the Orlando Amstel Arena. Four days later, South Africa will then travel to Cairo to face Eritrea, who will stage their home fixture in the Egyptian capital.
Bafana will remain in Cairo for a friendly international against Egypt, giving Mosimane another opportunity to assess his players during his first camp back in charge.
The demanding schedule partly explains his decision to name an extended 30-man squad for the upcoming international window.
