Following the official closure of the PSL transfer window on 22 September, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates stand out for conducting some of the best business in the market.
The two rivals were locked in fierce bidding wars for several marquee targets during the window, with Sundowns ultimately coming out on top to secure the most sought-after talent. Masandawana beat Pirates to key signatures, including highly-rated attacker Siyanda Ndlovu, right-back Thabang Matuludi, and centre-back Wandile Dube.
Despite missing out on a few high-profile targets to Sundowns, the Buccaneers still managed to bolster their squad with impactful additions who have hit the ground running at Mayfair.
Following one of the most dramatic transfer windows in recent memory, FARPost takes a look at five outstanding signings, with Siyanda Ndlovu and Gamphani Lungu leading the list of exciting new recruits.
1. SIYANDA NDLOVU-MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
The dynamic attacker joined Masandawana from Golden Arrows after an impressive spell with the KwaZulu-Natal side under former head coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Ndlovu has quickly established himself as a pivotal figure for the Brazilians, becoming a regular starter under Portuguese head coach Miguel Cardoso. The 23-year-old has already made 10 appearances in all competitions for Sundowns, scoring two goals and providing one assist, while injecting much-needed creative spark with his flair in attack.
2. GAMPHANI LUNGU-ORLANDO PIRATES
Lungu has made an immediate impact at the Soweto giants following his July move from Siwelele FC.
The 28-year-old played a central role in propelling Pirates to the MTN8 final, where they are set to face Sundowns next month at a venue yet to be confirmed by the PSL. Lungu has already scored four goals and provided one assist in seven appearances across all competitions. His stellar club form has also earned him a recall to the Zambian national team for the upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
3. CASSIUS MAILULA-MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
The Bafana Bafana international returned to Sundowns for a second spell after leaving the club two seasons ago to join Toronto FC in Major League Soccer (MLS).
Following a challenging stint abroad, Mailula re-signed with his boyhood club. The 25-year-old has since scored four goals in 11 appearances, earning back his spot in the South African national team after missing out on selection during his time overseas.
4. THAPELO MOKOBODI-ORLANDO PIRATES
Arriving at Pirates as a relatively unknown signing, Mokobodi has defied expectations with a dream start for the Sea Robbers.
The Soweto-born midfielder has proven to be one of Pirates’ finest additions, standing out for his ability to dictate the tempo of matches, split defences with key passes, and break up opposition attacks.
5. THABANG MABENA-MILFORD FC
The young attacker has been a standout star for Milford FC as they navigate a promising start to life in the Betway Premiership following their promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Operating in the number 10 role, Mabena has impressed with his ability to exploit half-spaces, beat defenders, and drive his team into the final third. The former Dondol Stars attacker is in his debut season with Milford, having completed a move from Black Leopards following their relegation to the ABC Motsepe League last season.
