Kaizer Chiefs academy graduate Njabulo Blom has explained why he opted to join Stellenbosch FC on a season-long loan from Indonesian Super League side Borneo Samarinda.
The Cape Winelands side confirmed the arrival of the former Amakhosi man on Friday morning, as the Gavin-Hunt-coached side looks to reinforce their options in the middle of the park.
Stellenbosch revealed that all formalities for the move were concluded prior to the transfer window deadline on 22 September.
The two-time capped Bafana Bafana international has since arrived in the Western Cape to begin life with the Maroons.
Before joining Borneo Samarinda on 28 July 2026, the 26-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Stellies following his departure from Vietnamese side Nam Dinh FC, though a deal failed to materialise at the time.

Blom, who also previously featured in Major League Soccer [MLS] for St. Louis City, explained the motivation behind choosing to join Gavin Hunt’s squad.
He pointed to Stellenbosch FC’s impressive track record of player development and the opportunity to reset his career under high-pressure leadership. Blom highlighted the professional environment at the club and expressed his eagerness to rediscover his peak form under Hunt.
“I’m excited to be here, and to start this journey in a new environment,” Blom told the Stellies media team. “I’m looking forward to the challenge and building relationships with my new teammates. I will do my best to help the team and see what we can achieve together.
“Stellenbosch is a professional and well-run club, and players who have played here in the past have enjoyed success, so I felt that it was a good environment for me to grow and to play competitive football again.
“I know coach Gavin [Hunt] demands a lot from his players, and that will also help me improve and get back to my best.”
Stellenbosch confirmed that Blom will wear the number 35 jersey for the remainder of the campaign. The midfielder could be handed his debut against his former club, Chiefs, when the two sides meet in the Betway Premiership clash on Saturday, 17 October 2026.
