Keletso Makgalwa opens up on failed Kaizer Chiefs move

Simba SC attacker Keletso Makgalwa has opened up on why a move to Kaizer Chiefs failed to materialise at the start of the season, despite what he described as a “good offer” from Amakhosi.

Makgalwa has joined Tanzanian giants Simba SC after parting ways with Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United at the end of last season.

As FARPost previously reported, Chiefs had shown interest in the 29-year-old before his move to the Tanzanian giants. The former Mamelodi Sundowns player subsequently joined the Steve Barker-coached side for the new 2026/27 campaign.

WHAT KELETSO MAKGALWA SAID ABOUT HIS FAILED MOVE TO AMAKHOSI

“Yes, Chiefs were one of the teams that were interested [in my services],” Makgalwa told FARPost.

“It was a good offer from them, but I wanted to play elsewhere outside South Africa. That’s why I chose Simba SC. I didn’t really decline the offer. They came late, to be honest. I had a conversation with my agent [Ntobatsi Masegela] and Kaizer [Motaung Jr]. They were busy finalising their squad, and Simba came, you know. So I was like let me just go to Simba.”

EX-SUNDOWNS PLAYER NOT RULING OUT AN OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN KAIZER CHIEFS IN THE FUTURE

But Makgalwa does not rule out any possibility of a move to the Soweto giants if an opportunity in the future arises. However, he also emphasised that his focus is on doing well at Simba under Barker.

“It is still a dream for me because, as a young boy from Mokopane, it was one of my dreams to play for Kaizer Chiefs. So I think if that move comes, I will take it. But for now, I am focused on Simba, helping them to win the league and do well in the [CAF] Champions League.”

Makgalwa was speaking to FARPost during Simba’s mini-camp at The Ranch Resort outside Polokwane, where the team is preparing for the resumption of the season following the current FIFA international break.
