Durban protesters have threatened to shut down Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday morning in an attempt to prevent the sold-out MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns from taking place.
Pirates and Sundowns are set to renew their rivalry in the top eight final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00.
The two heavyweights have finalised their preparations as they battle for the R10 million prize in front of a packed crowd in KwaZulu-Natal.
Heading into the encounter, Pirates are looking to claim their fifth MTN8 title, having won the competition in four previous campaigns.
On the other hand, the Brazilians are eager to end their MTN8 drought. They last lifted the trophy in 2021 following a penalty shootout victory over Cape Town City FC.
Both sides enter the final in peak form, occupying the top two positions on the Betway Premiership table.
DURBAN UNREST CAUSES ANXIETY AMONGST FOOTBALL LOVERS HEADING TO MOSES MABHIDA STADIUM

With fans looking forward to what promises to be an entertaining spectacle, protesters in Durban have issued a major threat to fans, the PSL, and all stakeholders in a bid to prevent the match from taking place.
Durban is one of the cities dealing with the anti-illegal migrants protest, with cases of looting and torching of cars reported amongst other violent incidents.
In a translated IsiZulu video circulating on social media, one protester declared that no one would be allowed to watch football while they fought for the country. He threatened to shut down the gates of the Moses Mabhida Stadium this morning.
“Tomorrow [Saturday] there’s a Sundowns and Pirates match at Moses Mabhida Stadium. We are going to close the gates in the morning; there won’t be football that’s going to take place. There’s no man who will watch football while we fight for our country,” he said.
Meanwhile, PSL has provided crucial logistics information. The League urged supporters to download their tickets before making their way to the venue and to refrain from taking screenshots of their tickets, while reiterating that no tickets will be on sale at the venue.
