Reneilwe Letsholonyane has given a glowing assessment of Argentine forward Nahuel Melgarejo, who had a trial at Orlando Pirates ahead of the 2026/27 season, saying he has the quality to play anywhere in the Betway Premiership.

Letsholonyane recently joined Mochudi Centre Chiefs after a brief stint at FC Platinum. While he was still establishing himself at the Zimbabwean side alongside Thabo Senong, the former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder could not resist an offer from Botswana, where he had carved a niche for himself last season with Matebele FC.

At Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Letsholonyane has linked up with Argentine star Melgarejo, who had a trial stint at Pirates early in August 2026.

Much was said about the Argentine’s qualities during his time with the Soweto giants, though he eventually returned to the Botswana outfit.

‘HE IS A VERY INTERESTING PLAYER’ – LETSHOLONYANE

In an interview with FARPost, Letsholonyane spoke glowingly about Melgarejo, saying the 22-year-old has the quality to fit into any Betway Premiership team.

The Argentine is Mochudi Centre Chiefs’ playmaker, which Letsholonyane says makes him a special kind of player.

Letsholonyane rates Melgarejo highly and believes he could make a mark in South Africa if given an opportunity. The player himself is keen to join the PSL, which is regarded as superior to most leagues in Southern Africa.

“He’s a very interesting player, good attitude, good human being, very technical and a hard worker. A team player that works well with all the good players we have in the team,” Letsholonyane told FARPost.

“I think he can [play in SA] in the long run. He is still 22 years old, and it would obviously be a matter of adaptation and how long it can take him. But he has the ability and potential to play in SA. He can play as a winger, number 10 and false striker.”
