Why Gomora United are barred from using Malamulele Stadium

The Collins Chabane Local Municipality in Limpopo has explained to FARPost why the Malamulele Stadium is unable to host Gomora United league matches for the next two weeks.

The Malamulele Stadium serves as the home venue for Motsepe Foundation Championship side Gomora United.

Like most facilities across the country, the stadium received the thumbs-up from the Premier Soccer League [PSL] at the start of the 2026/27 season to host matches.

Gomora played their home matches against Leicesterford City FC and Venda FC at the venue, including their 2-1 win against Upington City FC on Sunday, 11 October.

MALAMULELE STADIUM BARRED FROM HOSTING PSL MATCHES FOR TWO WEEKS

However, FARPost has established that the club has now been forced to move their home match against Cape Town City FC to an alternative venue. This follows the stadium authorities being told they needed to fix the grass next to one of the poles.

Municipality spokesperson Robert Mathye informed FARPost that they have addressed the issue raised by the league and the stadium is ready to host matches.

“We were told that the stadium has some issues next to the southern poles,” said Mathye. “They [PSL] said we should fix the grass, and it will take two weeks to be ready. However, we have already fixed that grass and we believe the stadium is fine. We have seen stadiums that are worse than ours, and games are being played.

โ€œAnyway, rules are rules, and we are going to obey them. We did what the PSL has advised us to do and are hopeful that after two weeks Gomora will come back and play their games here,โ€ he added.

COLLINS CHABANE MUNICIPALITY SAYS THE FACILITY IS READY FOR LEAGUE ACTION

Mathye added that they remain confident that the facility will once again receive the green light when the PSL returns for another inspection.

“Remember, Gomora were supposed to be playing Cape Town City here at the Malamulele Stadium. We were very much ready for that match; that’s why we even hosted a game between Gomora and Upington City yesterday [Sunday], because our stadium is not that bad. But we are going to obey the rules and obviously wait for the PSL after those two weeks.”

Gomora, who are originally from Alexandra in Johannesburg, relocated to Limpopo last season after battling to secure a home ground in Gauteng.
