Polokwane City FC head coach Willy Moloto is expected to miss Saturday evening’s Carling Knockout Cup clash against Siwelele FC after missing training for two consecutive days.
Information reaching FARPost indicates that Moloto did not attend Rise and Shine’s training sessions on Thursday and Friday and is unlikely to be on the bench for the Last-16 encounter.
The match is set for Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, with kick-off at 18h00 CAT. PLK City welcome Siwelele to Polokwane, seeking a response after suffering a 1-0 Betway Premiership defeat to the same opponents last weekend. That result handed Siwelele their first league victory of the campaign on their eighth attempt, while extending City’s frustrating start to the season.
The Limpopo outfit have registered just one victory in eight league matches and occupy 11th position in the standings.
MOLOTO’S ABSENCE AT POLOKWANE CITY EXPLAINED

Moloto’s absence follows indications earlier in the week that City remained behind their head coach despite the disappointing run of results. The reason for his absence from training is that he has been given time off by his doctor due to illness.
The coach has been advised to take time off to recover, which has disrupted his involvement in preparations for the cup fixture. In his absence, Mkhuseli Sentane is likely to take charge of the team.
The latest development leaves PLK City preparing for their cup opener without the coach entrusted with leading the team ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Moloto took charge following Phuti Mohafe’s unexpected departure to Marumo Gallants, where Mohafe has since parted ways with the club.
His appointment marked a return to familiar surroundings. He previously served as co-coach alongside Innocent Mayoyo during the 2021/22 season and has also worked within PLK City’s DStv Diski Challenge structures.
Saturday’s encounter offers Rise and Shine an opportunity to put their league struggles aside and secure a place in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals. It also presents a quick opportunity to make amends against a Siwelele side that left with all three points in their recent league meeting.
Following the cup fixture, PLK City are scheduled to host TS Galaxy at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on 31 October as they look to improve their league position.
