Young Africans SC have officially terminated the contract of head coach Manqoba Mngqithi with immediate effect after a brief stint in Dar es Salaam, relieving the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor of his duties on Saturday night.
Mngqithi is leaving the Tanzanian giants after barely three months, having taken over the coaching job in July 2026 with high expectations of winning major trophies, including the CAF Champions League.
However, Young Africans announced the departure of the experienced coach after the team played to a frustrating goalless draw against TRA in the Tanzanian Premier League.
Yanga are winless in their last two league matches, which has prompted the club bosses to fire Mngqithi. Over a week ago, Young Africans suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat against Simba SC in the Kariakoo derby.
Although Mngqithi has managed to help Young Africans to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stages, the feat was not enough to help the highly-rated coach retain his job in East Africa.
On Saturday night, Young Africans released a statement, announcing the exit of Mngqithi.

“The management of Young Africans Sports Club would like to inform the public that it has reached a decision to terminate the contract of the first-team head coach, Mngqithi,” Young Africans said.

“Likewise, the management of Young Africans Sports Club has terminated the contract of the first-team Conditioning Coach, Chyna Mokaila.
“The management thanks these coaches for their contribution to our club and wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.
“Dear Yanga fans, preparations to appoint a new head coach have already begun, and you are asked to continue supporting the club as usual.”
Meanwhile, Mngqithi is heading out the exit door with 10 wins, two draws and only one defeat in 13 appearances across all competitions. He also won the Community Shield for Yanga in the early stages of his stay against the Steve Barker-coached side.
Before signing with Young Africans, Mngqithi was in charge of the Betway Premiership side Golden Arrows. In his stint with the KZN-based side, the 55-year-old turned the club into one of the best sides in South Africa after qualifying for the top eight in the previous campaign.
