Polokwane City FC assistant coach Mkhuseli Sentane has explained why Manuel Kambala and new signing Oscarine Masuluke have been given the captaincy roles at the club.
Kambala captained Polokwane during the 0-0 draw against TS Galaxy in a Betway Premiership match, as well as during the Carling Knockout Cup elimination by Siwelele FC most recently.
Mozambique international, Kambala, has been at Rise and Shine since parting ways with Magesi FC in 2023. He has become an integral part of the team, establishing himself as a regular.
Masuluke, meanwhile, has quickly cemented the number one spot since joining PLK City from Stellenbosch FC at the start of the current season.
MKHUSELI SENTANE CONFIRMS MANUEL KAMBALA AND OSCARINE MASULUKE AS NEW CAPTAINS
Speaking to journalists after the draw against TS Galaxy at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, Sentane said the club looked at Kambala’s experience before giving him the leadership role. He also confirmed that Masuluke and Tlou Nkwe are the other captains.

“We thought that we should just give him [Kambala] a captain’s role because of his experience as well. He’s always been there for the team, helping the team,” said Sentane.
“But other than that, we’ve got three captains in this team. We should also see [Oscarine] Masuluke one day; you’ll see him as a captain, and Nkwe can also be a captain one day. We are trying to rotate and give them more responsibility and leadership so that they can be able to guide the youngsters.”
POLOKWANE CITY COACH NOT SATISFIED WITH A DRAW AT HOME
Meanwhile, Sentane has been holding the fort while head coach Willy Moloto recovers from illness. He admitted that the result against Galaxy was a setback for the team.
“It’s not the result that we were looking for. We were looking for three points, but unfortunately, it was not to be,” he added.
“We tried everything that we thought was going to help us in order for us to break the deadlock, which is to score that important goal, but unfortunately we couldn’t. But I think overall, when we’re looking at our defensive line, we were solid except in the first half where they had two or three shots at goal.”
PLK City remains in position 11 in the Betway Premiership with eight points from the opening nine matches. They next face Durban City FC on 24 November, after the FIFA International break.
