Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams, as well as his Mamelodi Sundowns teammates Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau, have been nominated for the men’s categories of the CAF Awards 2026.
The awards ceremony will be held in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 7, when top African footballers, coaches and referees will be recognised.

TEBOHO MOKOENA JOINS HAKIMI, MANE, SEMENYO & CO FOR AFRICAN FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR CROWN
The Masandawana defensive midfielder has been named in the big league for the biggest gong in African football. The 29-year-old is in the running to dethrone Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi, who is the reigning African Footballer of the Year.
He is the only African-based player featuring among nominees like Sadio Mané, Manchester City FC’s Antoine Semenyo, Amad Diallo, Yoane Wissa and Brahim Díaz. Other names for this big award include Pape Gueye, Ismaila Sarr and Ismael Saibari.
The Bafana star could be proud to stand alongside signature names in African football. The Morocco and Senegal national teams have provided three players each in this category, while other nominees are from Ghana, Ivory Coast and DR Congo.

RONWEN WILLIAMS TAKES ANOTHER SHOT AT GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR
A former Ballon d’Or nominee, the Bafana skipper is vying for the Goalkeeper of the Year award for a fourth year in a row. The experienced goalkeeper will look to reclaim the award he won in 2024, when he also scooped the CAF Interclub Player of the Year.
Familiar faces rivalling Williams appear on this year’s list, including Senegal’s Edouard Mendy, Cape Verde’s 2026 FIFA World Cup sensation Vozinha, and Moroccan shot-stopper Yassine Bounou, the current holder.
TEBOHO MOKOENA BACK FOR ANOTHER AWARD, JOINED BY KHULISO MUDAU
Sundowns’ title-winning run in last season’s CAF Champions League has seen Mokoena and Mudau being nominated for the CAF Interclub Player of the Year. The Masandawana duo are trying to emulate Williams, a previous winner in this category.
Standing in the Bafana pair’s way are CR Belouizdad’s Abdennour Belhocini, Ahmed Khaldi of USM Alger, Egypt international Mahmoud ‘Trzeguet’ Hassan of Al Ahly and Zamalek SC’s Mohamed Shehata. The Morocco Botola Pro League trio of AS FAR’s Mohamed Rabie Hrimat, Mounir Chouiar of RS Berkane and Sofiane El Moudane of Olympic Safi also feature alongside Al Hilal star Abdel Raouf.
MIGUEL CARDOSO, MAMELODI SUNDOWNS AND BAFANA BAFANA NOMINATIONS
Masandawana coach Miguel Cardoso is amongst the Coach of the Year nominees. He is up against some 2026 FIFA World Cup coaches like Sebastien Desabre, Hossam Hassan, Bubista, Pape Thiaw and Mohamed Ouahbi.
Some of the coaching giants on the continent in this category are USM Alger’s Lamine N’Diaye, Walid Regragui, Alexandre Santos and Moatamed Gamal.
After reaching the 2026 World Cup Round of 32, Bafana are in the running for the National Team of the Year. Champions League holders Sundowns are in the running for the Club of the Year crown.
