SA analyst Thulani Thekiso leaves Yanga SC after four-trophy spell

South African performance analyst Thulani Thekiso has parted ways with Young Africans SC after a spell in which the Tanzanian giants won four trophies, including a record-equalling fifth successive league title.

Thekiso’s departure follows those of head coach Manqoba Mngqithi and strength and conditioning coach Tshepang ‘Chyna’ Mokaila, who left the club in October. It comes as new head coach Fadlu Davids begins assembling his technical team in Dar es Salaam.

Thekiso joined Yanga from Cape Town City FC ahead of the 2025/26 season on the recommendation of then-head coach Romain Folz.

He succeeded fellow South African Mpho Maruping, who left to reunite with Sead Ramovic at Algeria’s CR Belouizdad. Thekiso stayed on after Folz’s departure in October 2025 and remained part of the technical team when Mngqithi took charge the following July.

Thekiso’s first piece of silverware came in September 2025, when Yanga beat archrivals Simba SC 1-0 to lift the Community Shield. In January, the Jangwani giants added the Mapinduzi Cup, beating Azam FC 5-4 on penalties after a goalless final in Pemba.

The standout achievement came in June. Yanga beat JKT Tanzania 3-0 on the final day of the 2025/26 campaign to clinch their fifth straight Tanzanian Premier League title, finishing two points ahead of Simba. They opened the following season with another 1-0 win over their rivals in the Community Shield, this time under Mngqithi, to make it four trophies during Thekiso’s tenure.

The spell in Tanzania added to a CV that already included work with Banyana Banyana, the University of Pretoria and Sekhukhune United. At Sekhukhune, Thekiso was part of the technical team when Babina Noko reached the CAF Confederation Cup group stage for the first time in their history.

FADLU DAVIDS BRINGS HIS OWN ANALYST TO YANGA

As FARPost reported on Saturday morning, Davids arrived in Dar es Salaam with assistant coach Darian Wilken and performance analysis coach Mueez Kajee. Both worked with him at Simba and Raja Casablanca and are expected to take up similar roles at Yanga.

Simo Dladla is expected to remain on the technical team. Yanga also have analyst Yardaan Valodia on staff, and it remains unclear how Davids will divide the analysis duties as he settles in.
