Fadlu Davids makes key decisions on Manqoba Mngqithi’s Yanga staff

Newly appointed Young Africans SC head coach Fadlu Davids has made key decisions on the future of the technical staff who worked under his predecessor, Manqoba Mngqithi.

The South African mentor, who arrived in Dar es Salaam with Darian Wilken and Mueez Kajee, has opted to retain several members of Mngqithi’s technical team while releasing one coach.

Davids is also expecting his brother, Maahier Davids, on Sunday as he finalises his technical team ahead of the CAF Champions League group stage.

The former Simba SC coach has been tasked with maintaining Yanga’s domestic dominance while ensuring the Tanzanian giants make a strong impression on the continent. One key question after his appointment was what would happen to the technical staff that Mngqithi had assembled during his short stint at the club.

WHO STAYS AND WHO LEAVES YANGA’S TECHNICAL TEAM?

FARPost understands that Simo Dladla will remain at the club as one of Davids’ assistant coaches, having previously worked under Mngqithi.

Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi has also been retained and will continue to serve as the team’s set-piece coach.

Greg Etafia, who has been working as the Jangwani giants’ goalkeeper coach, will retain his position under the new technical team. Another member of Mngqithi’s staff who will remain at the club is performance analyst Yardaan Valodia.

Davids has indicated that he knows Valodia and is happy to work with him. His retention means Timu ya Wananchi will have two analysts, with Kajee joining the department. However, Thulani Thekiso has been released from his duties after Davids indicated that he would bring his own technical staff.

The decisions mean Davids will work with a combination of familiar faces and coaches who were already at the club before his appointment.

Wilken, who previously worked alongside Davids at Simba SC and Raja Casablanca, is among the coaches joining him in Tanzania.

FADLU DAVIDS TO LEAD YANGA’S ZANZIBAR TRAINING CAMP

Meanwhile, Davids is expected to lead Yanga to Zanzibar on Sunday for a short training camp during the international break.

The camp will give the former Orlando Pirates assistant coach an opportunity to familiarise himself with the squad and begin implementing his playing philosophy.

Yanga are preparing for their upcoming domestic fixtures and the CAF Champions League group stage, where Davids will be expected to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor.

The appointment marks Davids’ return to Tanzanian football following his previous spell with Yanga’s fierce rivals, Simba SC.
His first assignment will be a league clash against Polisi Tanzania FC on 20 November before Yanga host Algeria’s MC Alger in the CAF Champions League eight days later.
