Godfrey Mosoetsa explains delay in Happy Mashiane’s Siwelele FC signing

Happy Mashiane training with Siwelele FC

Siwelele FC head coach Godfrey Mosoetsa has revealed that “administrative issues” are currently delaying the potential signing of former Kaizer Chiefs utility player Happy Mashiane.

Mashiane has been training with Siwelele and is a free agent after being released by Amakhosi in June 2026. This was also after he spent last season on loan at Siwelele, where he struggled for game time.

But the Bloemfontein-based side has handed the left-back another chance as he trains with them. The 28-year-old is trying to win a contract in a team that has Orlando Pirates loanee Aphiwe Baliti and Felix Noge at left-back.

Should Siwelele sign Mashiane, competition on the left wing will also come from Sphesihle Jeza, Neo Mokhachane and Blessing Thulo.

Mosoetsa says Mashiane is in their plans, but administrative stumbling blocks have delayed signing the player. “Coming to Happy, at the moment, there are still certain administrative issues. But he is still working hard,” Mosoetsa told the media.

“So, it’s some of the things that are being done outside the four walls. But he’s still with us training up until those things are sorted. For now, he is there but not available. He hasn’t been signed as yet. So all those things are being dealt with administratively.”

MOSOETSA MEASURES SIWELELE’S PROGRESS UNDER HIM

Meanwhile, as Siwelele are gearing up to face Chiefs in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals on Sunday night, Mosoetsa takes stock of the progress made as coach so far after he took over from Lehlohonolo Seema. In his time in charge so far, Siwelele have managed just two wins, with the rest of his fixtures ending in defeats and a draw.

“If you look at where the team comes from, maybe it’s a little bit unlucky with the previous coach [Seema]. Also, with me coming in, it was just a question of saying, ‘How do I start this?’” Mosoetsa added.

“If you remember, it was immediately after the Chiefs [league] game, going into the Sundowns game, just to try and make sure that the players believe in themselves and that they are there for a reason.

“We want to make sure that they feel comfortable with whoever is around them. Sometimes with players, you need to treat them with kid gloves just to make sure that they are comfortable.

“Once they are comfortable, then they start being themselves. I think for now they have responded well to the approach I have used. To be honest, they have responded well even though we still have a lot of work to do. But at least it’s looking promising.”
