‘He’s good for PSL’ but not Bafana – Broos on Letsoalo’s omission
Bafana Bafana mentor Hugo Broos has explained Victor Letsoalo’s omission from his 23-man squad set to take on Morocco in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers next month.
The Royal AM frontman has scored 17 goals for his side across all competitions this season.
Broos has cited his skills and pace concerns as the reasons for not picking him in his latest international squad for the upcoming Afcon qualifiers.
The Belgian coach said he feels sorry for not including Letsoalo in his squad as the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has a tremendous amount of talented strikers at its disposal. He reckons that the league has exciting players like Khanyisa Mayo, who is currently part of the Bafana squad and can do a better job than Letsoalo.
Underlining the reasons for Letsoalo’s omission from his squad, Broos said: “First of all, I have been following Victor. He can score, no doubt about it, but I think he scored more penalties (nine penalties).”
“Take out those nine penalties from Victor and the statistics don’t look so good anymore for a striker. He is good for PSL but not good enough for us.
“He was with us a game before and he played. At this moment, I don’t think Victor is the one we are looking for.”
South Africa will face the North Africans in the opening match of their Group K at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
