Zambia’s Prince Mumba completes Croatia move

Chipolopolo Zambia midfielder Prince Mumba has secured a short-term deal with Croatian club NK Istra 1961.

The Kabwe Warriors midfielder will join Istra on a season-long loan deal.

“On behalf of Kabwe Warriors Football club executive, I wish to confirm that Prince Mumba has joined NK Istra 1961 of Croatia on a seasonal loan up to June 30, 2023,” Warriors chairman Mutale Ngandu said in a club statement.

“You may all be aware that on July 5, 2022, Prince renewed his contract with us on an understanding that should a foreign club seek his signature, either on loan or permanent, we shall give him our blessings to proceed overseas.”

Mumba is currently away on Chipolopolo duty preparing for this Saturday’s 2022 CHAN first round, final leg qualifier against Mozambique in Lusaka.

The 22-year-old midfielder was also part of Chipolopolo’s 2022 COSAFA Cup winning team in South Africa, where Zambia beat Namibia 1-0 in the final on July 17 at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban where this year’s tournament was held.

Mumba is the second Chipolopolo player in the Balkans following fellow midfielder Klings Kangwa’s move in late May from Russian club Arsenal Tula to Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade on a four-year deal.
