Mike Makaab sheds light on future of Andile Jali amid retirement rumours

Renowned football agent Mike Makaab has shed light on the future of experienced midfielder Andile Jali amid retirement rumours.

Jali has been a free agent for over four months after parting ways with DStv Premiership side Moroka Swallows in December 2023.

The former Orlando Pirates star was among the players dismissed by Swallows for allegedly staging an ‘illegal strike’ over unpaid salaries.

Jali spent six months in the colours of the Dube Birds after joining the club on a free transfer ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. He made 13 appearances in all competitions for Swallows.

Before signing with Swallows, the holding midfielder was in the books of Mamelodi Sundowns, where he spent five seasons.

During his stint at Masandawana, Jali made 139 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing three assists. His stay at Sundowns was successful as he won five league titles, the Nedbank Cup and Telkom Knockout Cup [now known as the Carling Knockout Cup].

MIKE MAKAAB COMMENTS ON ANDILE JALI’S FUTURE

Having played in SA’s top flight for over 10 years, Mike Makaab doesn’t rule out the possibility of Jali’s retirement while admitting that the midfielder still has a lot to offer in football. The retirement reports emerged a few days ago as the ex-KV Oostende star remains clueless.

“So with Andile Jali, there have been conversations regarding his future. We know how much he is loved by football lovers,” Makaab told FARPost.

“I mean, Jali had a wonderful career, and we have to look at a decision that is favourable for him. We are very confident that he still has a lot to offer.

“And his next move has to be with a club that ticks all professional boxes. If he makes the decision to continue, we will fully support that. Hopefully, the decision about his future can be final soon.”
