Sundowns beat Coton Sport to finish top of Group B 

Mamelodi Sundowns secured top spot in CAF Champions League Group B with an impressive 2-1 victory over Cotton Sport at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday night. 

Rulani Mokwena‘s boys came into this game in a Jubilation mood after they were declared the 2022/23 DStv Premiership champions following SuperSport United’s 1-1 draw against Chippa United earlier on.

Both teams were looking happy to knock the ball around in the opening minutes of the showdown. 

As the first half progressed, it was the hosts attacking and the Cameroonian club scrambling to get back.

The home side continued to look to be the brighter team, with the visitors giving the ball away cheaply.

Sundowns put on a amazing show to prove why they are South African champions and making the game good viewing for the spectors on the stands.  

The Brazilians totally took advantage of the first period, as Sundowns began  the showpiece on the front foot. 

Bafana Ba Style opened the scoring in the 44th minute of the game through an own goal.

SUNDOWNS LEADING GOING INTO THE HALF-TIME BREAK

The game went into the half-time break Sundowns leading by 1-0. 

In the second half, the visitors needed a bit of magic to shake things up and take command of the contest.

But Masandawana continued to put in a resilient defending performance in the second stanza. 

Rulani Mokwena’s boys made sure they rebuff the efforts of the visitors’ attackers to claim all the valuable three points.

In the 86th minute of the showdown, Abubeker Nasir scored the second goal for Sundowns.

In the dying minutes of the game, the visitors pulled one back through Kasali. 

The final whistle blew with Sundowns walking away victorious. The win means the Chloorkop side finish top of Group B with 14 points after six games.
