Ex-PSL stars link up at new Zim club

A former Kaizer Chiefs centre-back has surfaced at a new Zimbabwe first division club along with one of Bidvest Wits’ former midfielders, FARPost can reveal.

So much attention has been on Khama Billiat, who recently joined Yadah FC after leaving DStv Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs. However, a number of former PSL stars are trekking back to Zimbabwe to revive or, rather, wrap up their careers.

Former SuperSport United striker Evans Rusike is one of several players who joined the bandwagon. He joined Yadah FC and is reviving himself along with the former Chiefs talisman Billiat.

Meanwhile, a former Kaizer Chiefs centre-back, Lincoln Zvasiya, has surfaced at Scotland FC in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One.

Last season, he was in the books of army-side Craneborne Bullets, who were relegated from Zimbabwe’s elite league.

Scotland FC are in their maiden first division season but have already shown signs that they mean business.

The recently formed club acquired a franchise to make its way into the league. Zvasiya was released by the Soweto giants in December 2013 after failing to get regular game time.

The 33-year-old failed to secure a first-team place, falling behind Eric Matoho and Tefu Mashamaite. The then coach, Stuart Baxter, also preferred Morgan Gould and Ugandian Ivan Bukenya.

Zvasiya spent three years at Naturena after joining from Dynamos’ class of 2011. He went to help Chiefs win the 2012/13 PSL title. Amakhosi also won the 2012 Nedbank Cup with the former Zimbabwean international in their ranks.

In addition, he has linked up with ex-Bidvest Wits midfielder Mukamba, who was offloaded by giants Dynamos in December 2023.

Mukamba has been more of a nomad since returning to Zimbabwe after a below-par stint in the DStv Premiership. Upon returning, he played for Dynamos, Caps United and Ngezi Platinum Stars but unfortunately won nothing significant.

How the duo will fare at the club remains to be seen, but they are expected to help the team gain PSL promotion. They signed one-year contracts with the club.
