Magesi FC clinch promotion to the DStv Premiership

Magesi FC clinched promotion to the DStv Premiership next season after winning the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship title.

Magesi defeated KZN-based side Milford FC 3-1 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium to secure promotion to SA’s top-flight league for the first time in the club’s history.

The Clinton Larsen-coached team is in their second season in the Motsepe Foundation after being promoted from the ABC Motsepe League in 2021.

The victory over Milford saw Magesi take an eight-point lead at the top of the log standings with two matches left before the season ends.

In another interesting clash, AmaTuks failed to collect maximum points after being held to a 2-2 draw by Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday. The Pretoria side has collected 47 points in 28 games while log leaders Magesi are on 55 points.

Tlou Segolela’s Platinum City Rovers were relegated on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Platinum City Rovers, under the tutelage of Tlou Segolela, were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League after a 4-2 loss to Casric Stars on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Baroka FC beat relegation-threatened Marumo Gallants 1-0 at Global Stadium to remain third on the table.

Bakgakga are in a good position to finish on the promotional playoffs spot and fight to return to the Premiership. Interestingly, Gallants dropped to 15th position with 30 points after suffering a defeat against Baroka.
