AmaZulu’s Truter aiming to upset Chiefs

AmaZulu head coach Brandon Truter is aiming to cause an upset against Kaizer Chiefs when both teams face off in the MTN8 two-legged semi-finals.

Truter and his charges have had an impressive start to the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

In five games played in the league, AmaZulu have amassed three victories, drawing once and losing one.

The former Swallows coach believes the good vein of form they enjoyed in recent times will be key for them to beat Amakhosi.

“I think semi-finals of any competition, all the teams are top quality, there’s no easy games of course. I thinks it’s all tough games. The draw for us, we were drawn against mighty Amakhosi.

“It’s always a good game for our supporters and good for us at the same time in terms of testing. The first leg being an away draw, gives us a bit of an advantage.

“If you can get your job done away from home early, that put us in a good position in the second leg.

“We want to do well, for us at the moment, we want to win every match and this is a cup competition, it’s a cup on offer. It’s there to be taken.

“We fancy our chances against Chiefs, against any team, I’m fairly confident the team is always improving in every match, and I expect us to be in top form,” the AmaZulu coach told the media.

The Durban-based side secured high profile signings in the off-season. Amongst the new faces were former Orlando Pirates star Gabadinho Mhango, Vuluyeke Zulu, Ethan Brooks, Thendo Mukumela, Augustin Kwem, Riaan Hanamub, Rally Bwalya, Dumisane Zuma and Ramahlwe Mphahlele.

The first leg of the semi-finals will happen on the weekend of 1/2 October while the return legs will take place on the 22 of October.
