Arthur Zwane reveals why he never doubted Ashley Du Preez despite goal drought
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane insists he never doubted Ashley Du Preez’s capabilities despite his poor run of form in front of goals in the last few games.
This comes after Du Preez scored the second goal for Amakhosi when the side defeated Royal AM 2-0 in a DStv Premiership clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
The speedy forward had last scored when the Soweto giants played against TS Galaxy in a league match on the 19th of October 2022.
Since then, Du Preez had struggled for form to find the back of the net for his side.
Overall, the ex-Stellenbosch frontman has scored four goals across all competitions for the Glamour Boys this campaign.
Zwane described the talented 25-year-old footballer as a “team player” who don’t just score only but creates chances for his teammates.
HOW ARTHUR ZWANE WAS NEVER WORRIED ABOUT DU PREEZ’S GOAL DROUGHT
“Look, I was not worried about Ashley. When you look at ‘Ash’ is a team player,” Zwane told the media in a post-match interview.
“You know, sometimes he doesn’t score but he creates. And he does well when it comes to defending, he is a team player as I said before.
“It was just a matter of time for him that he scores a goal.”
ARTHUR ZWANE HAPPY FOR DU PREEZ
“And I’m very happy for him [Ashley Du Preez],” he added.
“I just hope this one [goal] will build his confidence going forward and score more goals.”
The 49-year-old mentor hopes that the goal will give Du Preez morale booster going forward and score more goals for the team.
At the end of the day, Zwane says getting the three points was of paramount importance as Chiefs aim to gain some momentum in their top-two quest.
Chiefs’ next assignment will be against the Rockets in a league clash away from home on Thursday, 5 February 2023.
The kick-off is scheduled for 15:30.
