Eagles beef up technical team with ex-Maritzburg defender

North West ABC Motsepe League outfit Black Eagles has beefed up its technical team with former Maritzburg United defender Tshegofatso Mashego.

He joins former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi as a co-coach ahead of the new season. FARPost last week reported Tsotetsi’s appointment, and this publication can now confirm the new addition.

This comes after the club parted ways with their head coach Kabelo Sibiya, who is on his way to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda Football Academy (VFA).

The 41-year-old mentor previously played for teams such as Tembisa Classic, Maritzburg United, Free State Stars, Dynamos FC and Roses FC.

In his coaching career, he rose to prominence when he guided the Super Eagles to the National First Division way back in 2017. He also coached Baberwa FC in 2020.

Eagles completed the last term in the third position in the South African football third-tier with 27 points, just five points behind log leaders North West University, who went on to represent the province at the national playoffs.

Many people would remember the club by their good run in qualifying for the 2022 Nedbank Cup edition, where their journey in the competition was ended by the KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe League side Summerfield Dynamos in the Last 16 with a 1-0 scoreline after 120 tiresome minutes.

Meanwhile, Tsotetsi has previously coached Maccabi Haifa FC and was assistant coach to Sibiya when a well-known businessman and CEO of Drip, Mr Lekau Sehoana, purchased the status of Buya Msuthu last campaign.

The duo will be expected to help the side to achieve its ultimate goal of qualifying for the ABC League national playoffs and possibly getting promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship next season.
